About us

The Indo-Japanese Association which is the oldest bi-lateral and eco cultural Association was established in the year 1954, by a well-known Economist, late A. D. Shroff, with a view to foster friendship, cooperation and understanding between the people of India and Japan.

Aim & Objectives

  • To promote better understanding and appreciation of art, literature, culture, philosophy and economic policies, etc. relating to India and Japan.

  • Promotion of enduring goodwill, friendship and co-operation in all spheres of life, thought and allied activities between the people of India and other countries.

  • To facilitate greater trade and economic co-operation between India and Japan.

  1. Establishment of a Reading Room and Library – offering books, periodicals and other literature concerning the land of rising Sun and the Japanese way of life in general;

  2. Organising lectures, gatherings, seminars and conferences on subjects pertaining to Japanese affairs and Indo-Japanese relations;

  3. Publication of Journals, books, pamphlets and periodicals about on-going activities of the Association. Publication of the proceedings of such events, study and research works, having a bearing on the Indo-Japanese relations;

  4. Organising of conventions, conferences and seminars on topical issues in both the countries;

  5. Conducting classes in the Japanese language for the benefit of students in India;

  6. Provision of translation and interpretation facilities;

  7. Organisation of cultural events: Dance, Drama, Ballets and other Entertainment programmes;

  8. Exhibition of films depicting vital aspects of Japanese and Indian ways of life;

  9. Holding Receptions and Press Conferences for distinguished personalities and VIPs from Japan;

  10. Sending Cultural delegations to Japan and welcoming Japanese delegations to India.

    The Association, however, does not express opinions or associate with political activities in any manner.
